Our goal is to make school busing better for families and schools

Our buses should be clean on the inside and out, have working air conditioning and heat, and arrive on time and be staffed with friendly, helpful people. If that's not your experience contact us by phone ((718) 389-4241) or use our contact form. Or, if you want, raise issues directly with the NYC Public Schools.

Help us provide you with better service:

  • Parents in public and non-public schools: NYC has a new system to allow you to track your bus. To sign up go to the NYC pupil transportation web page at https://www.schools.nyc.gov/school-life/transportation/transportation-overview/whats-new/nyc-student-transportation-modernization-plan

  • NYCSBUS provides service to families and children in New York City, whether they attend public or private schools, under contract with NYC Public Schools’s Office of Pupil Transportation. Their website is a first place to go for information about busing and other aspects of student transportation. NYC Public also has a support hub where you can do things like change your address, establish an alternative afternoon drop off, or even report concerns about our company.

Information about your child’s school busing, whether your child attends public or private school, is accessible through your NYC Schools Account. Open one or access yours to make sure your address is up-to-date and to find out about your child’s busing information.

  • Help kids be safe, please remind them

    1) Stand back from the bus when it approaches the curb.

    2) Stay away from the hood of the bus when you are crossing the street, it’s hard for the driver to see over it, so stay five feet in front of the bus.

    3) On the bus stay seated and wear your seatbelt.

    4) And please be nice to the bus attendant and driver, they are trying to keep everyone safe and happy on their way to and from school.

  • We try to be on time but NYC is 400 square miles, made up of islands and full of terrible traffic. Late buses are reported on the NYC Public Schools’s late bus website.

  • For this system to work families have to take responsibility too. NYC Public Schools outlines family responsibilities on its website. It also has information about safe travel to share with children.

  • Our call center is open from 6am until the last child is dropped off, usually around 7pm. Call us at (718) 389-4241 or contact us using this website.

(And if you want, you could also tell us about something that our terrific attendants and drivers do well.)

  • We know that our buses are late, and sometimes it’s our fault. Sometimes it’s because of an unexpected traffic jam. We are working with NYC Public Schools to create an app to tell you when the bus will arrive. For now, just give a call ((718) 389-4241 and we can give you bus location.)

But sometimes the bus is late because families are not ready in the morning, or are not available in the afternoon. We are working to make the system work better, please do your part by being ready in the morning and afternoon so that we can pick up and drop off your child and be on time for the next family.

We Can’t Do This Alone

We work with advocacy groups working to improve student transportation:

  • The New York Association for Pupil Transportation supports better school busing in our state.

On a national level, the aptly named National Association for Pupil Transportation provides advocacy, information and support for bus riders and our industry.

  • Advocates for Children of New York works on behalf of children who are at greatest risk for school-based discrimination and/or academic failure due to poverty, disability, race, ethnicity, immigrant or English Language Learner status, sexual orientation, gender identity, homelessness, or involvement in the foster care or juvenile justice systems.

In October 2021 they published this guide to help schools and families navigate student transportation.

  • INCLUDEnyc connects young people to resources and helps them thrive in school, at work, and in the community. At the start of the 2021 school year they provided this resource page to support families with transportation

  • NYC and NY State have mandated an all electric school bus fleet by 2035 thanks to the work of the NYC Clean Bus Coalition and others. NYCSBUS is a proud to work with this organization and its founding members, the New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund, New York Lawyers for the Public Interest, WE ACT for Environmental Justice, 350 Brooklyn, North Brooklyn Neighbors, and Jobs to Move America.

  • NYCSBUS works closely with the World Resource Institute and its Electric School Bus Initiative which aims to create unstoppable momentum over the next five years on a path toward electrifying the entire fleet of U.S. school buses by 2030. We are honored to be part of that effort.

  • While we like to work with family, environmental and other advocates, NYCSBUS also hangs with its peeps, we are a proud member of the state’s Bus Contractors Association.

Schools need help too

  • The Office of Pupil Transportation provides transportation services to all schools that serve NYC school children, whether they attend public school or not, whether they are located in NYC or outside our city’s borders. They have specific information about transportation for schools here.

  • Advocates for Children published an October 2021 guide to support families and schools.

  • The Archdiocese of NY has this help page for families that attend its schools.

School busing regulations, oversight and best practices are provided by city, state and federal authorities

  • The NYC Department of Education’s Office of Pupil Transportation’s website offers a variety of information about transportation services for families and schools.

  • The State of New York regulates school busing and certifies all NYCSBUS drivers and inspects all of our school buses twice each year. The State’s pupil transportation website has information this program.

Inspection of our vehicles is done by the State’s Department of Transportation Office of Safety and Security Services.

Drivers, remember to be safe around school buses. The NY State DMV has this information about safety around school buses and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee is taking steps to ensure that drivers are safe around school buses.

  • The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also regulates school busing and has information about school bus safety here.
